Turku in numbers

At the end of 2025, 72 025 of Turku’s 141 814 residents aged 20–69 did not live with a spouse or cohabiting partner. That is 50.8 per cent against 41.9 per cent for Finland, the highest share of any Finnish city with more than 100 000 residents, and the only city in that group above half. “Not living with a partner” is not the same as single: the group also covers couples with separate addresses and adults who live with their parents (how we count).

Among those who do not live with a partner there are 101 men for every 100 women (Finland: 115). At 20–29 the ratio is 96, and Helsinki and Turku are the only Finnish municipalities with more than 20 000 residents where women are then the larger group. It jumps to 135 in the thirties and falls to 69 by the sixties.

A first language other than Finnish, Swedish or Sámi is recorded for 37 500 residents, or 17.9 per cent, against 11.4 per cent nationally. Swedish speakers, about 5 per cent of residents in this officially bilingual city (Åbo in Swedish), are not counted.

International House Turku, the City of Turku’s multilingual advice and guidance service for newcomers, is at Aurakatu 8 (Monitori, by the Market Square). Its page says the services “are intended for immigrants” and that help is available especially with job searching and education. The drop-in Welcome Desk lists its service languages as “Finnish and English” and is open Monday to Wednesday and Friday 9–16, Thursday 10–16.

For English speakers we found community events, not dating ones. The City of Turku’s English page for the Piispisperjantai coffee morning for international residents gives 10.00 to 12.00 at Vimma, Aurakatu 16, for 25 September and lists later Fridays on 30 October, 27 November and 18 December 2026. The Turku Cathedral International Congregation holds services in English every Sunday, at 16.00 in the cathedral.

Language practice is at the Main Library, Linnankatu 2: a multilingual café on Wednesdays from 17.00 to 18.00 (14 October, 11 November and 2 December 2026) and a Finnish café on Mondays until 14 December. According to the city’s newsletter, the languages of the multilingual café change every month and Finnish is always one of them; no others are named. The settlement association Aurala ran a free café in English, Spanish and Finnish in spring 2026; its autumn timetable is not yet announced.

We found no recurring singles activity in English in Turku on 4 October 2026, and no university community event that a page shows to be open to non-students. The Turku region event calendar and Visit Turku’s events page exist in English but are not singles calendars. Dating in Finland as a foreigner covers sites and apps that work without Finnish.

Dating apps in Turku

In Google Trends’ comparison of Finland’s regions over the last 12 months, Southwest Finland ranked 15th of 18 for the search “deitti”, the Finnish word for a date. For “tinder” the region sat mid-table. A Yle and University of Turku survey found that 53 per cent of adult Finns have tried a dating service, and 60 per cent of those who have used one have used Tinder.

Tinder is available in English. The Finnish services we have checked have no English interface; dating in Finland as a foreigner lists which work without Finnish, and dating site prices 2026 what they cost. Kaarina, Raisio and Naantali share the Föli bus network with Turku, so a wider search radius takes in the towns next door.
