Editorial policy
Every factual claim on this site rests on a primary source: an authority, a law, official statistics, or the service’s own website. We do not use affiliate listicles as sources on principle — the figures there go stale and bend to the commission. If a fact could not be verified, we write “not confirmed” rather than a plausible-sounding number. We add an update date only when the material has genuinely been reviewed.
How facts are checked
There is one rule: every figure must have a primary source, and that source must be named.
What counts as a primary source: authority websites (poliisi.fi, kkv.fi, traficom.fi, tietosuoja.fi), the texts of laws and directives, official statistics (Statistics Finland, municipal data), decisions of courts and supervisory authorities, open registers (the PRH, Finland’s patent and registration office), and the services’ own pages when the subject is their prices and terms.
What does not count as a primary source: affiliate rankings of dating sites. They turn up in every other search, but not one figure from them ends up in our texts.
Prices are taken only from the services’ own pages and published with a check date. A price without a date is not a fact but a recollection.
When a fact could not be verified, we say so. There are places on our pages that state that data for a particular city is not available in open form — and that is more honest than a plausible-sounding number.
When an update date is added
Only when the content has genuinely been reviewed. A fresh date on unchanged text looks more convincing but means precisely nothing, and we do not use that trick.
Prices go stale fastest. The legal part lives longer: rules change every few years, and such changes are noted directly in the text with the date they take effect.
A category of its own is what changes without warning: the services’ robots.txt files. A service can close its profiles to search engines, or open them, at any moment. Our data on this is always a snapshot from the check date, and beside it we explain how to check for yourself.
How errors are corrected
If you find a discrepancy with the original source, write to us and we will fix it. The address is at the end of the page.
Substantive errors — a wrong figure, a wrong rule, an out-of-date price — are corrected, and the material gets a new review date.
We do not remove pages after the fact to cover up a mistake. If a conclusion has changed, that is written into the text.
An error in a figure is more likely carelessness than a trick. You can and should check us against the published sources: the links to them are at the bottom of every page for exactly that purpose.
Advertiser influence
On content, assessments and the order in comparisons: none. The criteria are published in full, and you can use them to check us.
On the choice of topics: there is influence, and it is most honest to say so directly. The commercial sections exist because the site has to live on something.
No service gets to see material in advance, approve wordings, or demand that criticism be removed. That is precisely why the examination of claims against paid services sits in a section that is not monetised.
We do not publish material supplied by an advertiser and we do not present someone else’s wording under our own name.
Frequently asked
Where do the figures on the site come from?
From primary sources: authority websites (poliisi.fi, kkv.fi, traficom.fi, tietosuoja.fi), the texts of laws, official statistics, decisions of courts and supervisory authorities, open registers, and the services’ own pages. We do not use affiliate rankings as sources at all — the figures there go stale and bend to the commission.
How often are prices updated?
Beside every price table there is a check date. Prices are taken from the services’ own pages. If the date is old, treat the figures as indicative and re-check them via the source link — it is at the bottom of every page.
What should I do if I find an error?
Write to the address at the end of the page and say where the discrepancy with the original source is. Substantive errors are corrected, and the material gets a new review date. We do not remove pages after the fact: if a conclusion has changed, that is written into the text.
Can advertisers influence the content?
They cannot influence assessments or the order in comparisons, because the criteria are published in full. They do influence the choice of topics, and it is most honest to say so directly. No service gets to see material in advance, approve wordings, or demand that criticism be removed.
