The site is organised by question rather than by the names of services, because the name of a platform is rarely what brings someone here.

The comparisons section answers the question of what exists and how to choose between the options. It also covers who owns the Finnish services — and it turns out that the two largest “competing” brands are registered as auxiliary trade names of the same company.

The prices section is about what these services actually cost. The main trap on this market fits in one sentence: a tariff of 7.90 euros a month means 94.80 euros taken at once, while a tariff of 14.95 means a charge of 14.95.

The safety section is about what can go wrong: fraud, fake profiles, blackmail. There is not a single affiliate link there, and that is a decision rather than an oversight.

The privacy section covers what the services know about you, who they pass it on to, and how to get your data back.

And the tools: a calculator for the full cost of a subscription and a test for the signs of fraud. Both run in your browser — nothing is sent to a server and nothing is stored anywhere.

Why we do not name a best site

Because best is not a property a service has. It is a match between a service and one particular need. A platform that suits someone in Helsinki looking for something easy is useless to someone in a small town whose first concern is not being seen by people they know.

There is a second reason, and it is less comfortable. In Finnish search results for commercial queries, the top positions are almost entirely affiliate rankings rather than the services themselves. They are built the same way: the writer earns a commission on a referral, the order is decided by the size of that commission, and the phrase “best site of the year” rests on no verifiable criterion at all.

Anyone can check this. Hover over a link in one of those rankings and look at the browser status bar. If it does not lead to the service’s own site but to a short unfamiliar domain, that is an affiliate network tracker.

We earn from affiliate links too, and we say so on every commercial page before the first link rather than in small print at the bottom. The difference lies in two things: the criteria are published in full, so our own choices can be audited against them, and the safety section is not monetised at all — the answer to “is this a scam?” cannot stand next to an invitation to sign up.

The five criteria we compare on

A criterion is only useful if you can check it yourself and arrive at the same answer regardless of who is doing the checking. Almost everything written in rankings fails that test immediately.

• The total for the whole subscription period rather than the monthly figure — that is the only price that actually leaves your card
• A cancellation function inside the account, and the notice period for ending the contract
• How profiles are verified: email and phone can be worked around in five minutes, and only selfie verification really gets in the way
• Whether profiles are visible to search engines — thirty seconds in the service’s robots.txt file
• How the charge appears on your bank statement — which depends on the payment method, not on what the service promises

How many people in Finland actually live alone

Figures matter more than impressions here, because impressions of this market are formed by advertising.

According to Tilastokeskus, Finland had 1 339 726 single-person households in 2025 out of 2 869 879 in total — around 46.7 per cent. In Helsinki the share is higher: 50.9 per cent at the end of 2024, and in Turku 56.3 per cent on 2023 data.

One qualification is compulsory: living alone and looking for someone are not the same thing. The statistic includes students, elderly people and couples who keep separate addresses.

Research by Yle and the University of Turku found that 53 per cent of Finnish adults have tried some dating service at least once. About 20 per cent use one actively, and 80 per cent of those do it through an app.

And here is what nobody knows: how many active users any particular platform has. No service publishes the figure, there is no external audit in the industry, and no counting method is disclosed. Numbers of the “more than 40 000 active users” kind should be read as advertising rather than as a specification.

What to check before you pay

Four steps that together take about ten minutes and remove most of the problems.

Find the company name and Y-tunnus — the Finnish business ID — at the foot of the site, and check it in the open data of the PRH trade register. That is free and needs no registration. Sometimes it turns out that two “different” services belong to the same firm.

Work out what will be charged today. If the page shows only a monthly price, multiply it by the number of months in the tariff.

Open the service’s address with /robots.txt added at the end and see whether the profile sections are closed to search engine crawlers. The spread between platforms is enormous.

Find the cancellation button before you pay. It has been mandatory under EU law since 19 June 2026, but it is better to locate it in advance than at the moment you need it.

The languages we write in

The site works in Finnish, Russian and English, and that is more than an interface switch — the texts are adapted rather than translated word for word.

The reason is that the audiences ask different questions. A Russian-speaking reader in Finland needs to know that a police report can be filed in a language they speak well enough and that the police arrange the interpreter. A Finnish-speaking reader does not need that explained.

The legal part is the same for everyone: KKV guidance, EU directives and the GDPR apply regardless of which language you read in.

Each language has its own addresses: the Finnish page lives at /fi/seksitreffit, the same material in English at /en/adult-dating-finland. The word in the address is in the language you are reading. Switching language takes you to the same page in the other language, not back to the home page.
