Cookies

Short answer

The site uses two groups of cookies. The necessary ones store your answer to the cookie question so that it does not have to be asked on every page; they contain no personal data and cannot be switched off. Analytics cookies are set by Google Analytics, and only after your explicit consent. For as long as there is no consent, the analytics script is not loaded onto the page at all: this is not a setting but the absence of a tag, and you can check it in your browser’s Network tab.

Which cookies are used

Necessary. One entry in the browser’s local storage holding your answer to the cookie question and the date of that answer. Without it the question window would open on every page. The entry contains no personal data and is not sent to the server.

Analytics. Google Analytics, valid for up to two years. They collect non-identifying statistics: which pages are opened, where users come from, and what kind of device they use. The IP address is passed on in truncated form.

There is nothing else. There are no advertising or tracking cookies on the site, no embedded social media widgets and no tracking pixels.

The window opens on your first visit. It has two buttons of the same size and weight: “Necessary only” and “Accept all”. Refusal is not hidden in small print — Traficom explicitly requires refusing to be as easy as consenting.

In the settings, the analytics toggle is off by default. There are no pre-given consents: a box ticked on your behalf is not consent.

You can read the site without having answered. We do not block access to force consent — that is not permitted, and there is no need for it either: before consent no third-party scripts are loaded in any case.

Your choice is stored together with the date. If the set of cookies changes, the consent version is raised and the question is asked again.

At the bottom of every page there is a “Cookie settings” link. It opens the same window in which consent was given.

This is not a formality: withdrawing has to be as easy as giving, and the identical interface is the most direct way of ensuring that.

After refusal, the analytics script stops loading. Google Analytics cookies that have already been set are removed with the browser’s own functions: the site settings in the address bar have an option for deleting the site’s data.

You can go further and block cookies in the browser itself. The site still works — all the tools calculate locally and do not depend on cookies — but the question window will open every time, because there is nowhere to save your answer.

How to check us

The claim “we do not load analytics without consent” is worth little if it cannot be checked. The check takes a minute.

Open your browser’s developer tools, select the Network tab, and reload the page before you answer the cookie question. There should be no calls to googletagmanager.com in the list.

Answer “Accept all” and they appear. Answer “Necessary only” and they do not.

The only external call that always happens is loading Google Fonts. It relates to displaying the page, happens regardless of consent, and we mention it in the privacy policy directly.

Frequently asked

Do I have to consent to cookies?

No. The “Necessary only” button sits next to the consent button and is the same size. The site works fully after a refusal: all the tools calculate in the browser and do not depend on cookies. Blocking access to force consent is not permitted, and we do not do it.

How do I withdraw cookie consent?

The “Cookie settings” link at the bottom of every page opens the same window in which consent was given. Withdrawing has to be as easy as giving — that is a Traficom requirement. Cookies that have already been set are removed with the browser’s own functions, via the site settings in the address bar.

Which cookies are set without consent?

Only the entry recording your answer to the cookie question, together with the date of the answer. It is needed so the window does not open on every page; it contains no personal data and is not sent to the server. Everything else comes only after consent.

How can I make sure analytics really is not loaded?

Open the developer tools, select the Network tab, and reload the page before answering the cookie question. There should be no calls to googletagmanager.com. Accept and they appear; refuse and they do not. The only permanent external call is loading Google Fonts.

What happens if I block cookies in my browser?

The site still works fully, including the test and the calculator, because they calculate locally. The cookie question window will, however, open on every visit, because there is nowhere to save your answer.
